Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Image Compressor.
How does Image Compressor work?
Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image (up to 20 MB). Adjust quality and optional max dimensions, then compress. ToolsArk re-encodes the image with your browser’s canvas APIs and shows before/after size and a preview.
Does my image leave my device?
No. Compression runs in your browser. ToolsArk does not upload your image to a server or call an external compression API.
Which formats are supported?
Input and output support JPG, PNG, and WebP when your browser can encode them. Quality mainly affects JPG and WebP. PNG keeps full color data, so “compress” may not shrink PNG much.
Why did my file get larger?
Re-encoding can increase size if the original was already highly optimized, or if you choose a less efficient format. Try a lower quality setting or a different output format.
Are there size or dimension limits?
Files are limited to 20 MB. Very large dimensions may be scaled down for browser safety (around 8192 px on a side or about 40 million pixels). JPEG output paints transparent areas on white.
