Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the PDF Split.
How does PDF Split work?
Upload one PDF, choose a mode, then split. Extract copies the pages you list into one new PDF. Every page saves each page as its own file. Custom ranges create one PDF per range. ToolsArk copies pages with pdf-lib in your browser, so size, text, images, and orientation stay the same.
Do my PDFs leave my device?
No. All processing happens in your browser. ToolsArk does not upload your files to a server or call an external conversion API.
How do I write page numbers and ranges?
Pages start at 1. Use commas for lists and hyphens for ranges, for example 1,3,5 or 1-5 or 1-3,7,10-12. Out-of-range numbers are rejected before anything is written.
When do I get a ZIP download?
If split produces more than one PDF, ToolsArk downloads a ZIP of every file. You can also download each PDF individually from the list. A single extracted file downloads as a PDF.
Why did a file fail to load or split?
The file may not be a PDF, may be empty, larger than the size limit, password-protected, or corrupted. Encrypted PDFs cannot be split in the browser. Use a valid, unencrypted PDF.
